Summary of 'Lines written in early spring'

The speaker states that when he was lying back in a grove of trees, his mind was filled with various thoughts. The beauty of nature gives him comfort, but it also makes him think of negative things. The speaker admires nature's ability to connect a human soul to herself in a way that is close to god, but he also expresses pain when considering how brutally man has disconnected that connection.

The speaker is extremely aware of nature's beauty; he loves in the greenery and believes that the lovely flowers are thankful to live close to nature and like every breath they takes. The speaker watches the birds that are singing and hopping around him and is impressed by these beautiful animals.

The speaker recognizes that the birds are doing all of these motions out of pure joy and satisfaction even though he does not understand their language or ways. All the speaker can do is find delight in their presence as a result of the sweet and light breeze that is blowing and the way that the twigs are spreading out to catch the sweet air.

What has man made of himself and his people by severing from such delight ?, the speaker wonders, since this is heaven and this is the holy plan of nature?
